GUFC Pathways Program
GUFC’s philosophy
GUFC aims to provide the best environment for the participation and fullest development of its members in Football and we are strongly committed to the values that define what the club believes in. One of the most important offerings that a club can do is commit to the development of its junior players. At GUFC we are focused on developing from within our player community, with the aim to provide a pathway for our junior players so they may grow and develop to play in our National Premier League teams.
Our commitment to current GUFC players means that they will be given preference to places in the Pathway’s Program, however, we encourage new players to still apply.
Who is the program for?
The GUFC Pathway’s Program is the entry point for the 2019 season for U10 – U12 boys and girls who want the best opportunity to prepare to play in the National Premier League. The program will provide a great platform for growth, support and development to assist players in becoming the best footballers they can be.
- U12 Boys and Girls Development Teams (Born before 31/12/2007)*
- U11 Boys and Girls Development Teams (Born before 31/12/2008)*
- U10 Boys and Girls Development Teams (Born before 31/12/2009)*
* Please refer to the GUFC Playing Up Age Policy prior to registering to avoid disappointment of registering in the incorrect age group.
Why choose the GUFC Pathway Program?
The program has been developed and will be managed by our Club’s highly skilled Technical Committee. This committee is comprised of experienced players who have played at international, Canberra and State league levels as well as respected and qualified coaches from within the region.
What’s involved in the program?
The program is an extensive thirty-week, academy-orientated program, which includes twice weekly training, competition rounds, tournament games, Kanga Cup and pre-organised friendlies against other academies. The format of the training will be in accordance with the official Australian Football Curriculum (AFC) and be based on Skills Acquisition suitable for the 9-12 age groups.
Please see link here to the FFA SAP training sessions that will be leveraged for the Pathways Program.
Where possible, teams may also be entered into additional matches or tournaments for the forthcoming season. Information on these will be released in due course based on availability/suitability.
Each team will have one or more dedicated coaching staff who will be deeply committed to the growth of football in the children of our community.
Player & Parent Commitment
The Pathways Program is a high-performance program and as such, a high level of commitment is expected. All successful players and their parents will be asked to sign a Participation Contract agreeing to:
- attend two training sessions per week ie a total of 60 sessions over 30 weeks, and
- play between 20 and 30 matches.
Parents will also expected to support GUFC in a volunteer capacity which could include participation in a fundraising activity and/or field set up and pack down on match days.
Note: We understand the importance of schooling commitments and on a case by case basis exceptions may be made for training when there is a conflict with school-based activities.
